Activity Updates and News:

4/19/12: Please read (below) important information regarding the IESASectional Track and Field meet on 5/12/12:

To: Track/Field parents

From: AJHS Coaches

Re: IESA Sectional Meet

Parents,

We have been notified by the IESA that the Sectional meet will be held on May 12, 2012. The location information is as follows:

 Hersey High Scool

1900 Thomas Street (A.K.A. Willow Road)

Arlington Heights, IL 60070

The meet is schedule to start at 9:00am on Saturday, May 12, 2012, however, there is a potential for substantial delay in the start time if the high school conference meet has to use the facility first, for a make-up date, should the high school meet that is scheduled to take place on Friday, May 11, 2012 be cancelled.

If the high school meet has to use the facility first on May 12th, the meet will not start before 4:00pm. A 4:00pm start would mean that the meet will run late into the night, likely until approximately 10:00pm, possibly later.

We will be providing informational details to the athletes that will be participating in the sectional meet. At this point, here is what we would like to know from the parents; If the meet on May 12th does start at 4:00pm, will your child be able to participate? Please respond on this as soon as possible. We understand that the late start can cause some difficulties. We are asking so that we know who will be available. Please send your response with your child to practice and have he/she give the response to a coach

Regards,

The AJHS Coaching staff

3/28/12: The team pictures for Boys' Volleyball, Track/Field and Pom Pon will be on 4/27/12. More on this in the individual areas of this site.

We are pleased to announce upgrades to this site! Two new site areas have been added. "Activity Updates and News" and "Athletic Health Information". There are now two more areas to help us keep you "In the Know".

In July of 2011, Illnois passed new legislation concerning the topic of concussions.  A part of this legislation includes a provision for the distribution of informational materials. Starting with the Fall  2011 sports, athletes on AJHS sports teams will be receiving this information, which is to go home to parents/guardians. Included with the information will be a form that requires the signature, and return to a coach, of the form. The purpose of the signed form is to confirm that the information did get to the parents/guardians. THIS FORM MUST BE SIGNED AND RETUNED OR THE STUDENT WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE. If you have any questions on this, please contact a Coach or the Athletic Director.

The sports schedules for 2011-2012 are posted in the schedules, directions and information area of this site. If there are any future changes, updates will be made as soon as possible.

Check out the upgrades to the schedules and directions area! This area now includes our Athletics Handbook and also a complete listing of all of our co-curricular activities, including the specifics of sports activities, in our Co-Curricular Handbook, also in that area.

Important: Please remember that sports physicals are required PRIOR TO PARTICIPATION IN A SPORT, INCLUDING THE TRYOUTS. The information shown in our books reflects "in season" time frames. If you have questions please contact a Coach or the Athletic Director.

Also..... postings are placed on the athletics board as well as the individual areas of this site.

PLEASE CHECK WITH THE SCHOOL NURSE ABOUT THE STATUS OF SPORTS PHYSICALS FOR THOSE OF YOU, WHO HAVE HAD PHYSICALS FOR SPORTS, AND ARE PLANNING ON BEING INVOLVED IN OUR UPCOMING SPORTS. A CURRENT SPORTS PHYSICAL IS REQUIRED TO BE ON FILE WITH THE SCHOOL NURSE BEFORE ANY PARTICIPATION IN SPORTS. THIS INCLUDES ANY TRY-OUT PERIODS!

For those of you planning on participating in upcoming sports, including those with tryouts. It is good to get your sports physicals completed as early as possible. REMEMBER, YOU MUST HAVE A CURRENT SPORTS PHYSICAL ON FILE WITH THE SCHOOL NURSE before you may participate in a sport. This includes tryouts.

Special Note: There has been information circulating "out and about" that anyone trying out for Pom Pon can not try out for Cheerleading and anyone trying out Cheerleading can not try out for Pom Pon. There is no rule/policy prohibiting a student from trying out for BOTH activities. If a student elects to try out for only one or the other, this will be a matter of individual choice, not a result, or interpretation of a rule/policy. Thanks to the parent who brought this to our attention! If you have questions, please contact the Athletic Director.

Please Note: Coaches send informational items home with the athletes. Some of this information requires parent/guardian signature. Please ask your child if he/she has any information if you are not given any. It is a goal of the athletics group to communicate with parents as quickly and efficiently as possible. And remember.... If you have questions, please contact the coaches or the athletic director.

We want to know..........

We take a great deal of pride in our athletics programs. Our staff is continually evaluating and working to provide our student athletes with quality programs that result in a rewarding and positive experience. This is a priority initiative for us. We also are very aware, and appreciative, of the support from the families of our athletes. We invite parents/guardians to help us in our efforts. Please take a few minutes and complete the survey attached to this section of our website. The survey contains instruction information as well as the survey content itself. Thank you, in advance, for helping us and "Thanks for all you are and all you do", from us, your team, here at AJHS.
