What is a School Psychologist? What do they do?

A School Psychologist helps children succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.  They collaborate and  work with teachers, administrators, other professionals, and parents to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments for all students.  School Psychologists work to find the best solution for each student and situation; they use different strategies to address student needs and to improve school and district wide support systems.

School Psychologists work with students individually and in groups.  School psychologists provide consultation to find effective solutions to learning and behavior problems.  They complete evaluations to determine eligibility for special education services.  School Psychologists provide academic and social/emotional interventions.  They help implement prevention programs so that schools are safe and effective learning environments.  Lastly, School Psychologists evaluate the effectiveness of academic and behavioral interventions and use data to make decisions.
