Social skills are those verbal and non-verbal communication, assertiveness, problem solving, decision-making, and self-management abilities that allow one to initiate and maintain positive relationships with others. Social skills groups are intended to help individuals make better choices in situations they may come across in their day-to-day lives and succeed in their relationships with others. General Information: For grade school, middle school and high school children/adolescents with difficulties in social skills due to learning disabilities and/or attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder. This eight-week group will be limited to 6 children and will involve role play and group activities covering the following topics:
• Nonverbal communication (eye contact, reading facial expressions, personal space)
• Role playing for positive social interaction (approaching children socially, communication/give and take of social interactions, social problem solving)
• Labeling emotions and coping with negative feelings (such as anger management, impulsivity) and self-esteem building
• Assertiveness/standing up to bullies
• Levels of friendship
Cost: $40 per session. Insurance may cover this group. Various days and times available.

General Information: Social skills groups offer training to children of all abilities in a variety of social and relationship skills. Through creative group problem solving activities, cooperative games and experiential coaching, participants learn to read social cues, improve problem-solving skills and initiate and maintain peer relationships.
