News for the week ending 5/18/12

Literacy:

  • This week we have spent a lot of time writing!  Students have a good understanding of the letter-sound connections and are able to sound out words to write sentences!  Writing is not only a way for students to express themselves, but it also reinforces their phonics and phonemic awareness skills. We wrote sentences using picture cards as prompts, wrote about ourselves, and retold a story using pictures and words.  My favorite writing activity this week was inspired by the book, Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus by Mo Willems.  I hope you enjoyed them!
