Our dance unit begins on Monday, March 12th and will run through Thursday, March 22nd.
5th & 6th grade students will dance through the decades, learning & dancing the Stroll, the Twist, disco, 80′s & 90′s dances (The Running Man, Cabbage Patch, The Sprinkler, etc), Achy Breaky Heart, and more. We will culminate our unit with Create-A-Dance. The students will work together in small groups of 5 or 6 and choreograph a dance to music which they will perform for their classmates.

Badminton
Our badminton unit begins Tuesday, February 14th. We are looking forward to a ‘swinging’ time! Our unit runs for 3 weeks and concludes with the GOLDEN BIRDIE TOURNAMENT.

ROLLERBLADING!
February 6th – 10th
We supply all necessary equipment, including skates. It is recommended that you can bring your own HELMET. We supply wrist guards, elbow & knee pads.

HEALTH and BASKETBALL
BASKETBALL & HEALTH
Beginning November 29th, we will start our basketball and health units. Mrs. Mittelman’s 5th grade classes and ALL 6th grade BOYS will begin with health for 3 weeks, followed by 3 weeks of basketball. Mrs. Spector’s 5th grade classes and ALL 6th grade GIRLS will begin with our basketball unit for 3 weeks, followed by 3 weeks of health. All health students will meet in room 108 and will need a 2-pocket folder & pencil.

FLOOR HOCKEY
Monday, October 24th, begins our Floor Hockey Unit. We will practice the skills needed to play; how to hold a stick, stickhandling, passing, shooting, goaltending, and safety before we begin team play.
After a week of practice games, we will conclude our unit with tournament competition, competing for the “STANLEY CONE!”

FITNESS TESTING
FALL FITNESS TESTING
Each Fall & Spring we participate in a series of fitness tests during P.E. class. They include a variety of helth-related physical fitness tests that are used to determine students’ overall physical fitness and suggest areas for improvement when appropriate. A copy of your child’s personalized results will be sent home with the first report card. These tests include the Sit & Reach, Flexed Arm Hang, Curl-Ups, The PACER & the Trunk Lift.

Welcome
P.E. 2011 – 2012
Welcome to Meridian Physical Education! All 5th and 6th grade students have P.E. class 5 days a week at Meridian. Students are required to wear appropriate ‘gym’ shoes for class. All classes are 30 minutes in length. Our first unit is our Team Building unit. Students will be working together as teams, getting to know one another and their teachers as well.
