Junior high students may participate in a yearly Science Fair. Students explore, ask questions, seek solutions, and follow the scientific method as they write research papers, create poster boards, and prepare presentations. Teacher mentors, peer reviews, and technology are invaluable sources for inspiration, research, and support.

Personal Technology Initiative

D102's Personal Technology Initiative arose as a natural extension of our vision for learning:
“Every day, every student will come to school and be met with learning opportunities at a student’s personal developmental level in all subject areas and will leave school having been challenged, feeling successful, and looking forward to tomorrow.”

The Personal Technology Initiative began in the 2012-2013 school year and provides an iPad to each student in D102.

Why iPads?

At D102, we believe in providing our students with the best tools to enhance their learning experience. After careful consideration, we have chosen iPads for several key reasons:

  1. Interactive Learning: iPads offer a level of immersion that is unparalleled. With touch-screen gestures and a wide variety of educational apps, students can interact with lesson plans and educational content in a more engaging and hands-on manner.

  2. Versatility and Portability: iPads are lightweight and portable, making it easy for students to carry them around. They also support a range of accessories like Apple Pencils and keyboards, which can enhance the learning experience.

  3. Seamless Integration: iPads integrate seamlessly with other Apple products and services, providing a cohesive and efficient ecosystem for both students and teachers. This integration supports collaborative learning and makes it easier for teachers to manage classroom activities. In D102, each classroom has an Apple TV so students and teachers can mirror their devices to share work that supports creativity and collaboration.

  4. Enhanced Security: iPads are known for their robust security measures, ensuring a safer digital environment for our students. This is crucial in protecting student data and maintaining a secure learning environment.

  5. Long Battery Life: With all-day battery life, iPads ensure that students can continue learning without interruptions. This reliability is essential for maintaining a smooth and productive school day.

  • We follow Apple’s Deployment Model, using Jamf Pro for mobile device management.
